In an article published on January 24 at capitaloutlook.com, B. B. Robinson (Ph.D.) suggests that learning to meditate could be one effective way of dealing with unemployment.

Robinson starts off by listing various costs of unemployment to the individual (deterioration of job skills, reduced self-esteem, stress) and to the society (additional cardiovascular deaths, suicides, crimes, mental hospital admissions). He then compiles a list of personal preventive actions which would minimize possible damage and even enhance overall life quality.

One of the nine actions he proposes: while unemployed and idly at home, learn to meditate! Robinson points specifically out that, based on research by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Transcendental Meditation has the potential ability to reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
