Before she was spotted by a casting agent, Eva Mendes who came from a family of modest means dreamed of becoming an astronaut, an opera singer or a nun.
And Hollywood’s glitz and glitter has not made Eva loose her cool.
Enjoying the hardest of all jobs
Mendes is well-known not only for her stunning looks but also good humor and positive outlook on life.
A recent example of was her comment on her new life as a mom. The mother of one-year-old Esmeralda said: “I thought my wild nights were over, but these are some of the wildest nights I’ve ever had….
“I want to respect all the moms out there. They’re going to be like, ‘You know what? You’re a few months in. Just shut up’.
I’m actually enjoying the sleepless nights because it’s bonding with my little girl!” Eva Mendes told Women’s Health Magazine in April.
Huge into meditation
When probed about her goals in life, Mendes does not hesitate: balance. The Fast & Furious star is definitely working in the right direction as she is a well-known fan of the Transcendental Meditation technique.
“I’m actually big into meditation, transcendental meditation, and that really helps create not only a sense of balance, but all the other stuff this is gonna sound cliché … serenity and kind of a calm state of mind,” Mendes says.
“And not that I’m like that all the time, but it helps me deal with life’s ups and downs, coming from more of a centered place.“
And it is not only peace of mind that Mendes gets from the practice.
Tapping into the deeper layers
“Meditation helps with creativity, and I never thought about it in that way until I read, and listened to, the audiobook of one of my favorite directors David Lynch, Catching the Big Fish.
The audio is really interesting because you hear his voice and there’s something so amazing about him, and his voice its so incredibly regular and I mean that in the best way possible.
He sounds like a regular dude and then you see Eraserhead, and you see Mulholland Drive and Wild at Heart … and its just like “What?!”
“It’s almost like Transcendental Meditation helps creatively on a level that I can’t describe.
I can give you a list of things I think, but it’s tapping into something so deep that when I reap the rewards, I don’t even know I’m reaping them… It’s a more overall kinda thing.”
A tip from Mendes: Smile a lot!
Could inner bliss have helped Mendes to maintain her incredibly radiant looks? The actress and model certainly thinks so:
“I believe that when I feel comfortable and confident on the inside, it comes through on the outside. I also think we all need to smile and laugh a lot.
It’s also important to find time to take care of yourself, doing things you are not used to doing because of your crazy schedule. Rest and enjoy living.”
