Huffington Post asked Bob Roth, the director of the David Lynch Foundation, how he explained the success of Transcendental Meditation in helping people from so many different walks of life.
Believe it or not, it simply works
Roth stressed that the efficiency of TM is because of the simplicity of the technique. It addresses a very natural and universal mechanism of rest in our body.
So even if a practitioner is completely skeptical about the results, they will occur.
Bob Roth said: “Skepticism is typical because you listen to what is being said about meditation and you think, ’It’s too good to be true!’”
“But the fact of the matter is that what we’re talking about is accessing a mechanism in the nervous system and in the brain to take profound rest at will. It’s a mechanism that we’ve forgotten that we had.”
Everyone can do it means EVERYONE can do it
“Every human being has this ability to let the active thinking mind settle down and experience this inner calm. And that profound rest heals the body in ways we didn’t know it could heal.
We usually just rely on a good night’s sleep to drop cortisol levels, to drop adrenalin, to reboot the system.
So the mechanism at work during Transcendental Meditation is not exceptional – it just becomes the norm.”
“I’m a very skeptical person,” Roth added.
“And you don’t have to believe in anything for this to work. It’s physiological – not philosophical, religious, etc approach. That’s why we now see these changes taking place in people living with HIV, in veterans of war, in single moms raising their kids, and in everyone.
We all have this mechanism in place, and the TM technique simply allows us to access it.”
