Composer: “Meditation makes sense!”

The Estonian entry for Eurovision 2013 – one of the world’s biggest annual song contests – is a track “Uus algus / New Beginning”. The beautiful, life-affirming ballad was created by Mihkel Mattisen, a young composer who has been practicing Transcendental Meditation for a few years now.

Composer Mattisen on the importance of meditation

In a recent interview to the Estonian daily Eesti Päevaleht, Mattisen said that meditation is something which fits well into his perception of human existence. “Meditation has always made a lot of sense to me. It seems a deeply logical thing to do for a human being: to take some time off from the helter-skelter of the daily routine, to be alone, lucidly, without hunting down any thoughts.”

To reach the Eurovision, Mattisen’s song had to win the Estonian national contest with 157 competing entries. The final of the Eurovision contest will be held in Göteborg, Sweden, on May 18.
