Ellen DeGeneres is a 13-time Emmy award winning actress and popular talk-show host who has been practicing the Transcendental Meditation technique for 3 years. Last week, she made news with a generous act which underlined the importance of basic human kindness.
In her show, DeGeneres repaid a waitress who had picked up the lunch bill of two National Guard soldiers.
The waitress, 22-year-old single mother Sarah Hoidahl, was working at a restaurant in New Hampshire, when the two women troops sat in her section for a meal, Fox News reported. The waitress heard the soldiers discussing the government shutdown and mention they were not getting paid.
After they had finished their lunch, instead of delivering the soldiers a cheque, the waitress sent them a note reading “Thanks to the government shutdown the people like you that protect this country are not getting paid. However I still am. Lunch is on me! Thank you for serving ladies! Have a good day!”
The bill cost her $27.75.
Learning about this act of kindness when the soldiers posted a picture of the note on the National Guard Facebook page, Ellen DeGeneres asked the waitress to her show.
Not only did DeGeneres remunerate her $27 in cash. She also handed the astounded waitress a cheque for $10,000, in gratitude for her exemplary act of caring.
