The Hollywood star Heather Graham has been practicing Transcendental Meditation for over 20 years now.
She picked it up when working with the director David Lynch on the TV series Twin Peaks and the film Fire Walk with Me in the early 90’s. She has been keeping up regular practice – 20 minutes twice a day – ever since.
Graham: “TM calms me down!”
Coming into the studio of the NBC program Today to chat about her latest roles on screen, Heather Graham also talked about her practice of Transcendental Meditation: “I’m kinda high-strung, so it’s easy to get anxious. But TM calms you down. It helps you find that peaceful place inside yourself – so whenever your life is going a bit crazy, it reminds you how to be really centered.”
In another interview, Graham told that Transcendental Meditation helps to empty the mind of thoughts and connect to the wider universe through feeling the pleasure of being alive and at peace. Meditation, for Graham, is the space of complete freedom:
“You know when you have a day off, and you’re just like, ‘I don’t have to do anything today, so I’ll just sit in this chair, and I don’t need to rush anywhere,’ and you’re sitting there doing nothing, and you’re like, ‘This feels so good to do nothing.’”
Heather Graham (b. 1970) is an American actress often featured in magazines’ ‘Most Beautiful’ lists. Graham is also a public advocate for Children International, and various environmental issues.
