Leaving city life behind, Elizabeth Taggart set up Amba Farms eight years ago to grow fresh produce. Today, the family-operated venture in Westchester, N.Y. offers a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, berries and herbs – all exclusively organic.
But this is not all there is to it. As a teacher of Transcendental Meditation, Taggart treats her fields and orchards to Vedic chants. Even the name of the company – Amba – is derived from ancient Vedic wisdom, meaning “universal mother”.
Taggart sells her produce to local people and restaurants. In the inclusive and harmonious spirit guiding the whole enterprise, she donates the profits to the Maharishi Purusha Program, Mother Divine and Transcendental Vedic Pundits.
