If you’re looking to achieve higher states of consciousness, consider meditation. This natural technique allows the mind to experience relief from stress and access higher states of consciousness. In this post, we’ll explore the different states of consciousness and how meditation can help you reach them.
Consciousness is a field of intelligence that underlies the basis of all existence. It is the source out of which all forms and phenomena arise and again dissolve back into. As the source of intelligence of our entire existence, it is experienced within us at the basis of our conscious mind.
If we can align our inner self with that source of intelligence more deeply then we can grow and evolve to higher states of consciousness.
There are 3 states of consciousness that we are ordinarily aware of: waking, dreaming, and sleeping; but there is field of consciousness that transcends these states and that is the experience of pure consciousness alone. We can call it transcendental consciousness.
This experience of higher states of consciousness that can be achieved through techniques to transcending thought. One of the easiest ways to do this is through the practise Transcendental Meditation (TM). This technique allows a person to ‘effortlessly and naturally’ settle down and transcend thought to experience pure consciusness.
Let’s take a look at how the states of consciousness can grow and develop over time with regular experience of transcending.
Transcendental consciousness: the 4th state of consciousness
This is the 4th state of consciousness and is experienced as a deep inner silence or stillness. This is the experience of one’s own conciousness or awareness. It is also called the Self, one’s own true nature. From the experience of this place of restful alertness, the Self, a person experiences a profound refreshment of energy, creativity, and intelligence.
Cosmic consciousness, the 5th state of consciousness
As a person continues to practice meditation regularly, you may spontaneously begin to experience deeper levels of awareness or higher states of consciousness.
This includes the experience of cosmic consciousness, the 5th state of consciousness, where one experiences the silence of pure consciousness along with the day-to-day activity. In this state, the events of life are like a line drawn in the air. They do not disturb that inner value of silence, which permeates everything.
God consciousness, the 6th state of consciousness
With further practice, one may experience God-consciousness—6th state of consciousness. In this state of consciousness, the heart swells in devotion to the creation, and one perceives the finest level of creation. One’s perception can see the divine or celestial level of creation, and the heart is filled with love and devotion to God.
Unity: the 7th state of consciousness
Finally, unity consciousness, 7th state of consciousness is the highest state of human development possible—the complete identification with the unified field of all laws of nature. In this state of consciousness, there is no separation between oneself and the relative creation. It is completely unified and experienced as one unbounded self connecting everything. This is the full development of one’s heart and mind and is referred to as enlightenment in ancient texts.
Conclusion:
If you’re looking to achieve higher states of consciousness, transcendental meditation is a great option. This simple technique allows you to move beyond the thinking mind and into a field of pure awareness or pure consciousness.
With regular practice, you may even spontaneously experience deeper levels than transcendental meditation—such as cosmic consciousness or God-consciousness. If you’re interested in exploring higher states of consciousness, Transcendental Meditation may be for you.
